Rock Sound Double Page Spread
Above shows construction of Rock Sound magazine double page spread. their main image takes up the majority of space, I like this because it is breaking common conventions. It also doesn't include three columns down each page. I think this is the type of design I will end up following.
Kerrang Double Page Spread
The Kerrang double page spread is different to the one above. The biggest thing on the page is the main headline, showing a slightly smaller main image. Although this is a good way to get across to the reader what it is that they will be reading, there isn't much context on the page.
NME Double Page Spread
NME double page spread is significantly different to the first two shown. The main headline and main image are both on the left page. The right side only shows one main story. This is different as many rock magazine's will try and fit different sub-headings along the same subject, rather than just one story. However it is the only spread to contain two images.
When deciding which photograph would be the best for the page background I was stuck between choosing the following:
The photograph I chose to be the main image for my magazine is the bottom image. Due to miss-en-scene this photograph would link to common conventions. For example, The lighting is nature but is still dark. The setting is based in the woods, which gives an unaware feeling the to the reader. The characters are dressed in black clothing, this was important as black goes with every colour, therefore it links to my colour scheme. These images were picked as a sample as they link with my target audience, as they contain models of the same age. This magazine is based for men and women, as the young women could look up to the characters as role models.
These photographs go with my target audience of 12-18. This encourages women to buy more rock magazines as it includes strong female leads.
